Capita plc, a provider of business process services, today gave information about a cyber incident that occurred recently.
Capita declared in April that it had been the victim of a cyberattack, which hindered access to internal Microsoft Office 365 applications.
Fortunately, Capita and its tech allies were able to reinstate the access of their colleagues to Microsoft Office 365. The majority of their customer services were not affected by the attack and were still in operation. Eventually, Capita managed to restore all the customer services which had been affected.
In coordination with the effort to restore services, Capita has worked closely and expeditiously with expert consultants and forensic sleuths to research the incident to ensure that no customer, supplier, or employee data has been stolen.
To date, it appears that the breach began on or around 22 March, and was stopped by Capita on the 31st. As a result, the incident was drastically limited, possibly influencing around 4% of Capita’s server estate.
There is evidence to suggest that some data may have been taken from this small segment of affected server estate, which could include customer, provider, or staff info.
It is still running its forensic investigations.
