Equinix increases its presence in Mumbai

Equinix, a digital infrastructure firm, has disclosed a $42 million investment for its new data center in Mumbai, known as MB4.

The new facility will help both local and international businesses improve their digital abilities in order to speed up India’s digital transformation.

By including MB4, Equinix will increase its digital infrastructure capabilities in India to meet the growing need for data center. And interconnection services from companies.

Managing Director, Equinix India, Manoj Paul, said:

The increased digitalization of the economy is constantly driving the need for data center and interconnection services in India. The availability of MB4, expected in Q4 2023, will allow us to continue serving our customers’ needs in India, enabling them to leverage our interconnection platform for efficient connectivity to multiple cloud service providers, network service providers and other businesses. This will help existing and new customers accelerate their digital transformation journey.

MB4, which is set to launch in Q4 2023 pending regulatory approval, will offer more connection choices to major telecom networks. Additionally, it will provide Metro Connect® availability to Equinix data centers MB1 and MB2, which are known for their high connectivity. The initial phase of MB4 will have 350 cabinets, with plans for a total of 700 cabinets once fully built.

Equinix runs 250 data centers in 71 major cities, offering digital infrastructure for over 10,000 top companies. In the Asia-Pacific region, Equinix presently operates 52 data centers in important cities like Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, and Singapore. The company also recently shared its intention to enter Malaysia and Indonesia to aid business growth in these emerging markets.

Equinix currently has two data centers in Mumbai called MB1 and MB2. These data centers house the digital systems of over 300 international and local businesses. They provide access to popular cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud.

The data centers also host worldwide networks, content delivery network providers, local carriers. And more than 165 internet service providers (ISPs) and five internet exchanges. By using Platform Equinix®, businesses can easily connect with these providers and their own global deployments using instant, user-friendly connectivity.
