Equinix to Launch KL Data Center in 2024

Equinix

Equinix, Inc (NASDAQ:EQIX), a digital infrastructure company, announced that it is opening its first data center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in the first quarter of 2024. This comes after its announcement last year to enter the country with a data center in Johor.

Equinix plans to increase the amount of digital infrastructure in Malaysia to meet the demands of businesses looking to grow in the nation.

President, Asia-Pacific, Equinix, Jeremy Deutsch, said:

Over the past several years, we have witnessed Malaysia emerge as an increasingly strategic location for global digital infrastructure, and we believe it to be an attractive destination for data center growth and investment. Following our initial investment in Johor, we are excited to add another data center in Kuala Lumpur.

By expanding Platform Equinix® in the two most strategic metros in Malaysia, we will enable Malaysian businesses, as well as multinationals with a presence in Malaysia, to leverage a trusted platform to bring together and interconnect the foundational infrastructure to power their success. We believe the two data centers will fuel Equinix’s existing data center momentum and support Malaysia’s aspirations as a digitally driven connectivity hub.

KL1 IBX® data center will open in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur in the first quarter of 2024. Its first phase will provide 450 server cabinets and 1,300 square meters of colocation space. When complete, KL1 will offer 900 cabinets and 2,630 square meters of colocation space. Cyberjaya is part of the Malaysian government’s Multimedia Super Corridor, designed to help grow the nation’s digital economy.

Equinix’s Internet Exchange® will make it easier for companies around the world to transfer a lot of information quickly. With this solution, internet service providers will be able to better access digital pathways, helping them join the growing digital economy. This will especially benefit firms in Southeast Asia, allowing them to take part in e-commerce more effectively.

Malaysia is an attractive destination for digital infrastructure and cloud services, thanks to its KL1 and Equinix Fabric® platforms. With them, customers can connect to popular cloud services like:

Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, providing a secure place to store important data. This provides additional capacity to support neighboring Singapore’s need for digital infrastructure.
